Because leaving is only the beginning.

WHY WE EXIST

We exist to change what happens after a woman leaves domestic and family violence.

Leaving takes courage. But what comes next, the isolation, the overwhelm, the weight of rebuilding a life often with children in tow, is frequently the most complex and unsupported part of the journey.

We believe healing is not a moment. It's a process.

We believe no woman or child should have to rebuild alone.

And we believe real recovery happens through connection, community and practical support.
Not just survival.

A Word From Our Founder

With almost two decades of lived experience of domestic and family violence, and navigating the systems that surround it, I understand how complex and isolating life can be after leaving.

While the initial crisis may pass, the challenges that follow often leave women and children facing overwhelming circumstances, many of which they are left to navigate alone.

I created Somewhere To Go Foundation because I saw firsthand what was missing. Not another crisis service, but a place to rebuild. A place where women can find understanding, practical guidance and a safe community after the doors of crisis services close.

This work is deeply personal. It is built on lived experience and a belief that women deserve more than survival. They deserve support, dignity, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives and the lives of their families. With the hope of breaking the cycle of family disfunction and violence.

Our mission is simple: that no woman has to navigate this chapter alone.

Kindest, Yentl Skewes

Our Mission

We exist to bridge the gap between leaving and healing.

Somewhere To Go supports women and children in the post-crisis stage of domestic and family violence. The part that is so often overlooked. Through community, practical support, education and connection, we help families rebuild stability, confidence and a sense of belonging.

Our Vision

A future where every woman and child leaving domestic and family violence has access to a safe, supportive community to rebuild their lives.

We are building the first Somewhere To Go Community Centre on the Sunshine Coast, with a long-term vision to expand across Australia. Because no matter where a family lives, there should be somewhere to go.

Meet the people behind the mission.

Somewhere To Go is governed by a board of dedicated individuals who bring expertise, lived experience and a shared commitment to integrity and impact.
